About Us

Therma is the culmination of years in the heating industry by Steve who started in the industry during the late 90’s in the UK and learned a lot about European heating standards installing systems in high end residential properties all over the south of England.  When he moved to New Zealand permanently in 2001 he brought this knowledge with him.  Since then more and more New Zealanders have embraced central heating as the main form of heating in their properties particularly using the underfloor hydronic type and forced air styles.

Our Story

Providing Ground Source Heating  Since 2009

As fuel costs increased and heat pump efficiency improved, we saw a big shift from Diesel boilers to Air source heat pumps.  Then the Ground source revolution came as the benefits in efficiency increased and product enhancement in Europe became available in New Zealand.

As the interest in Ground Source systems increased Steve started training and learning how they were installed and operated, over the last 10 years we have installed over 30 Ground Source systems from small 150M2 houses to 1200m2 or larger properties and even commercial projects with all of them working to their design requirements perfectly.

Having completed the International Ground Source Heating Association’s Geo Exchange Certificate and staying as an active member of the organisation Steve is continually learning and growing his knowledge in this field.

Working on Exemplar Projects

Therma has worked on several New Zealand’s most Exemplar projects for energy efficiency including Aroha Retreat and Camp Glenorchy.  Camp Glenorchy was constructed under the Living Building Challenge the world’s toughest environmental construction challenge encompassing 7 areas called petals.

Therma was given the challenge to design and oversee the installation of the Ground Source Heating System, Solar Thermal and Water Collection systems, this was completed in late 2018 and is already becoming a world recognised demonstration of combing beauty and energy efficiency in an operating commercial project, Camp Glenorchy was listed on Time Magazine’s top 100 places in the world to visit.  We are blessed to of been a major part of this journey.

Testimonials

"With a large extension planned for the business, we were introduced to Steve through our architect.  The specialised heating system that we required was a complicated build and Steve took the time to understand our requirements and restrictions before coming back to us with plans.  I would describe Steve as a “true heating expert” and he remained fully committed to the project throughout,  including the monitoring of the installation,  and the final commissioning.  With a wealth of knowledge and always available to discuss the project we would not hesitate to recommend Steve for any future projects."
