Over the years Steve has been involved with many projects around New Zealand both designing and installing specialist heating systems, below are some examples of these projects.

Camp Glenorchy Eco Retreat

Listed in Time Magazine’s top 100 places in the world to visit Camp GY is an outstanding example of blending construction and environmental awareness, built under the guidelines of the Living Building Challenge this was no ordinary project.
Therma was engaged to Design the Ground source heating and hot water systems, Solar Thermal arrays, Potable water filtration and distribution, Grey water recovery for irrigation and the standard plumbing and drainage.
Therma also oversaw the installation and completed the commissioning of the systems with the building controls team.  As part of the design process Therma was also responsible for investigating and researching the latest international technologies to see if they could be integrated into the project, during this process we managed to design and import quite a few new technologies into New Zealand and the southern hemisphere, we even found improvements that could be made to these products and gave feedback to the European manufacturers that incorporated these improvements into their products.

Aro Ha Wellness Retreat

Aro Ha retreat is an all-inclusive program that uses nature, nutrition, mindfulness, yoga, and functional movement to jumpstart your health, and keeping inline with this philosophy the construction of the retreat used sustainable and environmental systems.

Steve and the team at Peak Plumbing installed and commissioned the heating and hot water systems for the retreat, these included one of the south islands largest wood gasification boilers, solar thermal arrays and district heating pipe work. As the head Mechanical Contractor Steve also oversaw the installation of the controls systems, Electrical for Mechanical wiring and ducted air installation.

Onsen Hot Pools

With a large extension planned for the hot pool complex the team at Onsen required a specialised heating system to meet their unique requirements, high volumes of water heated from outdated gas boilers were the current set up and a complete new system was required to improve efficiency and energy conservation.  Therma was engaged to design from scratch a new hot water system using state of the art heat pumps and a new bespoke heat recovery tank imported from the USA.

The system designed by Therma enabled Onsen Hot pools to receive a government grant from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) for new innovative systems and processes that could improve business energy performance and reduce carbon emissions.

Therma was engaged to design the new heating system, heat recovery tanks, bespoke filling systems, oversee installation and provide commissioning of mechanical and pumping systems.

As well as working on the above projects Steve has designed and installed many heating systems over the years including the first Ground Source Heating system in the Southern Lakes area.  He was also engaged by the Department of Conservation to install solar thermal systems to the DOC warden huts in the Dart, Rees and Routeburn areas.
